Job Summary:
The Pharmacy Veterinary Technician is responsible for providing support and assistance to the Veterinary Medicine department in the management and dispensing of pharmaceuticals for animal patients. This role requires a high level of attention to detail and the ability to work collaboratively with veterinarians, veterinary nurses, and other pharmacy staff. The Pharmacy Veterinary Technician must adhere to established protocols and ensure accurate preparation, labeling, and distribution of medications to ensure the highest standards of patient care.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Receive and process prescription orders for animal patients, ensuring all necessary information is complete and accurate.
2. Prepare medications, including compounding, measuring, and packaging, according to established protocols and dosage instructions.
3. Maintain inventory control and stock management of pharmaceuticals, ensuring adequate supplies are available to meet patient needs.
4. Collaborate with veterinarians and veterinary nurses to ensure appropriate selection and availability of medications based on patient requirements.
5. Accurately label medications, including dosage instructions, patient information, and any necessary warnings or precautions.
6. Maintain and update pharmacy records and databases, including patient profiles, medication inventory, and dispensing logs.
7. Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements related to the handling, storage, and dispensing of pharmaceuticals.
8. Provide guidance and support to veterinary nurses and other staff regarding medication administration techniques, potential drug interactions, and adverse reactions.
9. Assist with the maintenance and calibration of pharmacy equipment to ensure accurate and efficient operation.
